First let me just say that I am a new to homebrewing.. I just thought this might answer some basic questions for other noobs like me.. All of this info was taken from This great thread with lots of feedback on using Gelatin. I suggest reading it. I take no credit for any of this.

Cold Crashing is not required to use Gelatin..Although it can decrease the amount of time it needs to be Effective.. It can also help with Chill Haze when added to cold beer.
You Can add to primary if you are not going to rack to Secondary.
You Can add the gelatin mixture in the secondary and then rack the beer from the primary on top of it to get a nice mixture.
There Will be enough Yeast left to carb if you are Bottling.
You Can add the Gelatin mixture to the keg.
Allow 2-4 days for the Gelatin to work.
Gelatin will not add any flavors or smells to your beer.. It is flavorless.

I use a tablespoon per five gallon batch.
Mix it with hot tap water in a sauce pot, about 1 cup of water per tablespoon.
Stir it up and let it sit for 20-30 minutes to hydrate and bloom.
Put the pot on the stove and heat until it looks like it’s about to start boiling…don’t boil.
Cool slightly (I put my pot in a cold water bath).
Add it (gently) to the secondary (or keg) as you’re racking your beer.
Do Not Boil the water..If you do be sure to cool it before adding the Gelatin.
