Or just suck the juice out of the lime and throw the Corona away.

That sounds like the best plan!
Although I have some pretty good memories of multiple vacations sitting on the beach in Mexico doing nothing but eating chicharones and nachos while drinking corona with lime. Ah, those were the days, before marriage and a child and discovering craft beer. ;)

I was buying a 12 pack of stella at cvs, where they don't have any sort of selection really, and as i was walking out some guy came up to me and said "you know that's a bud beer, right?" I said "yes, it is a decent beer" and gave him a big smile. he was non-plussed. I followed up by pointing to the Carls Jr. across the street and said "I also eat there on occasion."

Hey now, Corona with lime is a perfectly acceptable choice when water's just a little too heavy. :p

Don't underestimate the importance of how the beer is poured!! I have a bookmark at home from one of Pilsner Urquell's website about how to pour a proper glass of beer, including discussion of dry foam vs wet foam, and then removing the dry foam at the end of the pour...

They unfortunately they have updated their website and my old link is dead :(. Perhaps the Czech language version still has all of the details. They did have a little bit still and still mention dry and wet foam here:

http://www.prazdroj.cz/en/beer/for-beer-drinkers/about-beer

Last year at the PU competition, they had fresh PU on tap, but it didn't seem quite as nice as it had at the Czech restaurant where the contest was held the year before. Later in the evening I watched the PU brewmaster showing the bartender how to properly pour the beer. I think he noticed a difference, and it was in how the beer was poured so he was showing the man how to do it right. Unfortunately I had had enough beer by then so didn't get to compare.

next time in DC, try the Bier Baron, formerly the Brickskeller, Guinness World Record holder as "the bar with the largest selection of commercially available beers."

here's a list of what they have available

Thats's a little strange. The selection listed is impressive but that it should be listed as "worlds largest selection" isn't right.

This, I think, is regarded as the most impressive in regards two selection:

EDIT: Nevermind, I should have checked to see if someone else spotted this before making a reply :)

That's really funny. When I was in there, I thought it was odd that they encouraged us to taste the barley malt but didn't say anything about tasting the hops. So my friend and I each grabbed a little pellet and bit a little off....

I then understood.

But it was just a tiny nibble, so it only took 5 minutes to get my taste buds back. Can't imagine the impact of more than that.

I often taste hops, especially when I plan on using one variety and find it's not available at my local HBS. I have a double IPA in secondary right now. I planned on using Columbus to bitter, but had to change to Willamette. I tasted the replacement, and adjusted accordingly.

Ha! I would like to see a show of hands of all of those that have never popped a hop pellet into their mouths to see what it tasted like.

I'll admit that I have done it. Once.

I've done it multiple times, I'm quite fond of it actually...

Or just suck the juice out of the lime and throw the Corona away.

I've been doing it wrong for years! I've been ordering 2 at a time, throwing the bottles across the bar, and squeezing the limes into both eyes. that way I can run around blind and hopefully land on a bottle of whiskey. I'll try your deal though.

Because of this thread I actually tried a hop pellet today. It was actually about half a pellet and it was Cascade. I didn't hate it and it wasn't overly bitter, but it's not something I enjoyed.

I may try some hops by themselves another brew day, but we'll see. Continuing with the nature of the thread tough; a coworker of mine came over during the brew and I got him to taste a hop pellet. I had just poured him about 4 oz. of an APA I have on tap. As he went to take a drink after he ate the pellet I asked him if he needed something to rinse the bitterness out of his mouth. He then replied "I'm drinking something even more bitter to rinse the bitterness out". :smack:

I have a buddy who's just getting into homebrewing and I've been coaching him via text message. I'm in NY and he's in Georgia so I have to coach from a distance. Anyway, I was telling him that I actually moved to All Grain brewing and maybe someday he would get there too. He said to me "What does that mean? No hops?" I laughed to myself but I gave him a break because he is new. I just told him that you always need hops!

Picture it, Germany circa 1400... "Hans I have this idea!" "Uh oh, another one of Helmut's 'ideas'" "No really, this is a good one... the church controls the gruit trade right?" "Yeah, so?" "well, if we throw a bunch of these bitter plants in the beer we'll get around all that" "Yeah... pretty much another one of your stupid ideas...."

Did the church really control gruit? Very interesting.

Whether thats the case or if its just misinformation that I've heard from several sources, Im not sure.

I would tend to believe it, seeing as the majority of brewers were in the monstaries anyway.

Funny story, at least I thought so. A while back I was playing WoW and drinking an IPA. "wow" I said in group chat, "they hopped this beer within an inch of its life." "Aw man that stinks, you cant have too much hops, or too little hops... you need just the right amount" "I know seriously..." and it went back and forth like this for a while, until I realized he was just agreeing with everything and anything I said.

"wait, how old are you?"

"17"

"And you've never had a beer..."

"Not a one"

"Oh... thanks for playing along"

"No problem"

Haha...that's great. (also, whatcha rollin, what server? Like MoP?)

was at Wegman's last night to grab a couple, saw a couple hipsters checking out the local craft beer lane when one asked the other, "what the hell is 'dry-hopped'?"
the other one answered, "don't worry about it. it's a marketing gimmick."

Well, he's not wrong.

You are indeed correct. A Google search has made for quite a productive day at work. And I'm sorry, I know this should be under "Fascinating things you've overheard about beer."

right now, some WoW guys are talking about this "old man" who kept talking about beer ;) :D

About a year and half ago, I was in a very small town in South Dakota. Just a little bar, I didnt expect them to have much for beer, so I asked the waitress, whats the darkest beer you have, she replied back Budweiser. I cringed a little, then she replied, oh we have Fat Tire, it was a moment of relief I could drink something with flavor.
