So I'm new to brewing, lm doing extract kits, so my question is; Is it better to do full boils with the extract kits? Or does it matter? I have the equipment to do a full boil. 8 gallon pot with propane burner. Advice is appreciated! Thanks

In general, yes, a full boil will produce a better beer and I'd always advise to boil the most you can even if not a total volume of the whole batch.

The hard thing is trying to chill 5 gallons of boiling wort! Many people who do a smaller boil can chill it in the sink, and it cools quickly. Then they add cold water to get to their pitching temperature for the yeast- generally in the 60s. With 5 gallons of boiling wort, it can be very hard to do without a wort chiller.

So, if you can chill the full boil, then you'd be all set!

+1 (as usual;))

If you have a large enough brew pot (8+ gallons) and are ready to build/buy a wort chiller, you're good to go.:rockin:

Personally, I don't even want to try and cool 5 gallons of liquid from boiling to 65*F w/o a wort chiller.
