Guys my fermintation wine went from 1.080 to .998 in 6 days...is there something wrong? I thought that this process would be longer. I this normal or should i change something or is it done and ready to the 2nd fermentation?

how many measurements (and days) in a row have you recorded .998?

1st day of fermentation it was 1.080 and I left it untouched until the 6th when I noticed it stopped bubbleling. I took a measurement and it was .998 What happened to 1.010??? According to the kit instructions I should have gotten 1.010 to switch it to 2nd fermentation but it went all the way thru to final reading .998

I've had it happen to me, too! I like to rack to secondary when the wine hits 1.020-1.010, usually about day 5, but sometimes it just goes blazing by that and finishes up. I've had some that went to .990 in just a couple of days!

Go ahead and rack to the secondary. It'll be fine!

Hello

I just noticed that i am missing some sterilizer from my air lock and found out that it has been dripping into the wine.. I say about less than a tsp has gone in the wine. I still think it was protecting the wine from outside bacteria getting in so I am not worry about that but I am worry about the sterilizer...Should I throw the wine away? How bad is this stuff for you?

What are you using in the airlock for sanitizer? If it's metabisulfite, one-step, or star-san, it's fine. Maybe pull it off and fill it with cheap vodka, just to be sure you don't get more sanitizer into the wine.

I am making a red wine and I am on my 2nd fermentation...is it normal to have what it looks like white stuff at the bottom and on the side of the container...I think is bad but before I throw it away i am looking for advice.

Thanks
