Hey guys! I've got a question for any of you that have their refrigerators/keggerators in their garage. I bought a used fridge from a friend over the winter and it worked great until recently. I think this might be because it gets so damn hot in the garage +90 easily during the day and the fridge just can't keep up. Does this sound reasonable? Are any of you having this same problem? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of getting a keggin system for this fridge but if the fridge is on the fritts then I might want to get another fridge first!

I have the same issue. My fridge is in our utility room that easily gets 90+. The fridge is older and only gets down to the upper 60's. Although the freezer works great, go figure...

Did you do the obvious...
Clean the coils?
Also are you getting a good seal?

If the seal is bad you have 3 options:
  1. Replace the seal (if you can get the right kind).
  2. Bungee cord the hell out of the door.
  3. Tape wax paper all around the door frame.
Then close the door. Next calk all of the bad spots. Let it dry. The wax paper will allow you to reopen the door. Remove the wax paper bits.

The seal is good, I'll have to check the coils when I get home! thx for the tip!

Double check the seal anyways. Sometimes it looks good and is still supple, but the door gets subtly bent out of wack. Perhaps the door hinge assembly is loose.

This can happen especially if the doors were reversed.

One of my fridges leaked like crazy out the bottom because the door wouldn't close right, but you wouldn't have known it unless you looked for it.

Ok, thanks, I'll check that out too!

OK, I got the problem solved! I simply unplgged it for a day to let the ice buildup on the evaporator coils melt. I plugged it back in and overnight the temp inside the fridge was 38F:ban:

Looks like I might have to do this once or twice a year but it's better than buying another fridge! Word up!

I like having my kegger in the garage. It's about four feet from the floor drain. Makes de-frosting easy. I just pull the plug and put all of the spare hops in the main freezer until it's done.
