Hello,

I usually brew beer but I am interested in making some apfelwine. I have a fruit juicer at home, can I use it to make cider? or would it just be fresh apple juice. And then can I make apfelwine from the juice (or cider) I made from my juicer?

Sorry for the noob question

Thanks in advance

I would also suggest doing a cost comparison on purchasing apples versus buying store bought juice for the experiment. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but it takes a lot of apples to press a gallon of juice. Just FYI.

+100 on this.

I was shocked at how much my first batch cost me because of the time and expense of pressing fresh apples. Even at discount u pick prices I was looking at about $8-10 a gallon. Same orchard sells fresh pressed juice for 2.50-3.50 a gallon depending on the season.

Using a juicer or even a full blown press is also VERY time consuming.

That said, the return on investment of my kids when they help me crush and press the apples and mix up the witches brew after a day in the orchard spending time together is priceless.

i agree that it's not very efficient, but it is rewarding and you can decide the mix of apples you use, which is hugely important in determining the final taste of your cider. but indeed it's going to be more expensive, especially in the spring, in the desert. but yes you can use the juicer, i have made many many (relatively small) batches this way, the finished stuff will be the same as if you had a press but the process is more wasteful with a juicer

I just took a sg reading from ed worts apfelwein recipe...1.000!!
