Frankenstein Beer

So I recently received a homebrew kit by sharper image as a gift. I love craft beer and I don't really want to do an every day beer from this kit. I want to play around with the potential while still using some of the pieces provided. Included are:

1 gal jug for fermentation
2-Row barley malt
medium crystal malt
"hops" (not specified)
"yeast" (not specified, though I have Nottingham yeast I plan on using)

I would like to ask if anyone can think of a fun way I can put a spin on what I have to work with; or any interesting thing I can do to this. Please let me know of any recipes that could be a fun change up to this kit.

Will this be your first homebrew? I know it's boring but I say just follow the instructions that come with the kit if it's your first time. If it's something you enjoy you can try something more exciting the next time.
