I brewed this up a couple months ago & it came out so well I thought I'd share it. I'm a big fan of Bell's Hopslam and their Two Hearted ale so I thought I'd come up with a cross between the two combining by favorite characteristics of each one, I call it Four Hearted Hopslam.

2row-14lbs
Crystal 40-1lb
Honey Malt-2lbs
Clover Honey-3lbs (90min)
Clover Honey-3lbs flameout

Hops:
1oz Centennial 90 min
1oz Centennial 75
1oz Centennial 60
1oz Centennial 45
1oz Centennial 30
1oz Centennial 15
1oz Centennial 0
2oz Centennial 14days

I mashed @ 156 for 1hr, ran wort up to 9 gal and boiled for 90 min, ended up with 6.25 gal in the primary. Used 2 packs of Safale-05.

OG-1.085
FG-1.008
ABV 10.8%

I've never had hop slam but I love Two Hearted. I've made a clone of it and loved it too.

What you've made sounds delicious.

2#'s of honey malt? That's way too much. A little goes a long way. You might want to cut it back and adjust next batch if needed. Also, 6#'s of honey is pushing the envelope. Might dry it out way too much. Don't need to add at 90 minutes either. Add all at once near flameout or even save some for secondary.

Actually the Honey Malt balanced out the hops, the Honey at the front was to boost the alcohol, it came in around 11%. There was 3lbs at flameout though, the only thing I would think of changing is Simcoe for dryhopping and maybe the 15 addition. Thanks for your input though.:mug:

I've heard that Bells uses a whole lot of local honey in hopslam. Makes sense I guess when you figure the price of honey and that a sixer will set you back twenty bones or more if you can even find one, if you're lucky.

Your recipe sounds pretty solid to me, I agree with the big honey malt in the bill and big later additions though I'd probably settle for plain old cane sugar for the early add.

This thread reminds me that I have 2 mini-kegs of HopSlam in my cold storage area that I need to get to ASAP. I bought 1 case of bottles and 2 mini-kegs when they released it earlier this year. Drank the bottles and forgot about the kegs. Looks like I need to have a little HopSlamma Jamma! Two Hearted and HopSlam are two of my favorite IPA's (or IPA/DIPA). I'm working on my AG system right now, so I will soon be able to try out your recipe. Thanks for the post and the feedback! :mug:
