A family member asked me to try to clone Founders Red Rye IPA for them. I found this recipe (post #23) from an old post. It shows an all grain recipe with:

67% base malts
10% rye malt
8% carapils

LHBS sells Briess Rye LME which is:

60% base malts
20% rye malt
10% caramel malt 40L

How far off would I be substituting this LME for those three malts and using all other ingredients according to the recipe? Alternatively I could split my LME 50% Briess Rye / 50% Briess light LME to get the rye to 10% total.

Thoughts and advice are appreciated.

Personal opinion only. When I did rye beer with only 10% rye it was hardly noticeable. I prefer the 20% rye more. YMMV

Thanks for the input RM-MN. I'll plan to go that direction unless someone else weighs in with a different opinion.
