Hey all,

Forgot to rinse my wort chiller after soaking in PBW. This was a full boil and when it was time, I grabbed it out of the bucket where it had been soaking In PBW (it was pretty clean by then) and then stuck in the kettle for the last 15 min of the boil or so.

I kinda forgot it was PBW and not starsan or just water or whatever . I know that PBW, you are supposed to rinse.

Is this batch gonna be contaminated by the PBW and not ferment properly? Or worse yet, could this be toxic to drink?

Kinda sad right now,,, :(

Not a problem. All that wort and the boiling should neutralize it. I looked it up out of curiosity, and found this old post:

"I called Five Star and spoke with a tech at 5 Star (Charles Talley retired 2 years ago). 5 Star said that PBW is not FDA approved as a no rinse solution however it is non toxic, biodegradeable, etc. He said for this reason from a company standpoint he would have to say to dump the batch and start over. He said in his personal opinion he would taste the beer before bottling and if it didnt taste bad he would drink the whole thing."

I once was deep in thought and dumped almost a full tablespoon of Easy Clean in the wrong vessel (my chilling wort) with no ill tastes.

Just taste it, it's not enough to make you sick, but I can taste something like a microliter of 1% PBW in 4oz of beer (yes, I literally did that experiment). If it tastes bad, it won't go away, but if it tastes ok, then you're okay drinking it.
