He's got a young daughter that I'm sure he wants to see grow up more than anything else. He's got to do everything he can to fight - and I'm sure he will. People DO beat the odds. It's never the people that resign themselves to their fate either - it's the ones that say **** what the doctors say, I'm not going to let this beat me.

I hope he decides to look outside conventional medicine and look at all the options - including religion.

I'm also waiting on some test results for someone close to me. Right now, we're just praying and hoping that it ends there.

Sorry for missing this thread until today. Also sorry to hear about your cousin.

yeah you want to try all the options... but would you rather sit and struggle and let doctors poke and prod you and maybe come out ok, or do things you love and complete your "things i want to do before i die" list (we all have those)..

man tough stuff...

It's so hard to say without knowing what the doctors have to do, and how it might interfere with his "living." At that point, it's really all about family, so I, personally, would be doing everything I could to get as many days as I could.

Well.. an Update

Good news: After a few sessions of chemotherapy (those pills are like $2,000 each time) and countless conciliations, he is cancer free, for the time being..

Bad news: With several more sessions of chemotherapy needed.. his health insurance dropped his group...

Poor guy, with a new family and being 30, this is going to be a hard and long road ahead of him...

I hate freakin' insurance companies. I've had to deal with them quite a bit lately and they couldn't be more inefficient and lazy about things. Then, when you actually NEED them, they find any way they can to weasel out of paying.

Glad to hear he's doing better - that's awesome news!

Glad to hear the good news.

I have a friend back home that needed hip replacement surgery at 29 and had no health insurance. After the surgery and dealing with the doctors (who saw the situation he was in), the doctors dropped his bill. He owed something like 75k and wound up paying 2,500.

It's a write-off for hospitals (which I'm sure they have more than enough of), but it's possible.

I don't know if this has any bearing on his situation. Are they not planning on doing the chemo if he can't pay up front?

Glad to hear good news! Sorry about the insurance that sucks, but his health is good so that rocks.

Cheers

Hey, just found this thread - I was glad to get to page 4 and see the recent good news! I'll also be praying for him and the family.

Well... talk about divine intervention.

After speaking to his mother, a friend of the family who works for bluecross/blueshield approved him for insurance. Full coverage.

Who would ever do that? This guy has a huge heart!

The funny thing is, his premium now is cheaper than when he was with that group plan.

That's great news, man. Including the new insurance.

I'm not one to EVER say this, but...there should be a law against that sh*t. Dropping a group in the middle of cancer treatment? How do you live with yourself? How do you sleep at night?

Nice, good things man good things! Hope everything else is working out.

And +1 on what Evan! said.

Cheers.

Well, it has been a while since the last update on Jason.. the cancer came back in full force about a month ago...

He has taken a turn for the worse.. The doctors think that he had a stroke.. he has refused food, and is feeling horrible.

The have called the hospice.. and we are thinking we may have to take an early trip before christmas.

please keep him, and his wife and kid in your prayers/ thoughts.

Thanks guys.

I will keep them in prayer, we lost a good friend of ours, he left behind a wife and 3 boys...

it's no fun for anyone... I can relate to your pain and sadness

Well, sorry to say.. Jason passed Sunday morning at 9am..

His wife knew it was coming that morning, went to their son's room and woke Caleb..

She told him that "Daddy was going to be home with Jesus, so he should say goodbye.." Caleb climbed in his fathers lap and gave him a big hug in his final moments..

He was a good man, a great father, and a wonderful role model in my life..

Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts over this long battle.. we at least know now he is at peace and without pain..
