Hello,
I'm finally getting around to building my mashtun, and I bought this brass washing machine valve (link). It seems like the perfect part for the conversion; just need to attach my stainless steel mesh hose with a hose clamp to the inner fitting, and my hose to the outer fitting (plus washer and rubber gasket at the cooler wall.)
However, the specs for the valve I purchased specifically warn "Not intended to convey water for human consumption." Does this simply mean I need to apply the pickling technique for brass before I use it in the mashtun? Should I also be concerned with the lubricant used in the ball valve by the manufacturer? Otherwise the part is such a good fit for my project; it'd be a shame if I couldn't use it!
