Food grade garden hose

Picked up a Swan brand hose from Lowes and finally figured a way to store it and keep it out of the way.

Both ends are covered with old hop sacks to keep out critters and dust. It would look a lot more neater if the ends were actually connected but would the closed system then be more susceptible to harboring mold or mildew?

Can't tell what type of hose it is, bug recently found out that most hoses contain lead or at least are suspect. Make sure to get a rv/camper/boat hose. They are made out of medical grade vinyl and are NSF approved. Just a PSA

Good point - this hose is medical grade and I remember reading on the packaging that it is made for RV's, etc.

Ok cool, just checking. I was using a reg hose for a bit and when I found out about lead, it scared me. Also explains alot, I drank out of a garden hose all the time as a kid

just put a cup of no rinse sanitizer in there before you seal it up and slosh it around some.

Milldoggy, yeah, when we were kids we used to suck on the tar when they came around to re-surface the roads. Can you believe it.

Tar is second only to hops as favorite smell.

i use a regular hose... well, it's designed for high temps as it comes right off the hot water tank so it's rubber rather than vinyl (made by goodyear)... and i haven't died yet.

I was just reading someplace (probably here!) that water from the hot water tank is not designed for drinking. (Something about the water going through those metal heat exchangers, or something like that.) Never knew that.

Not that I would drink out of the hot water tap but I remember using the heated water to get a head start on the heating for the mash water. Wont be doing that again.

Anyway my point is that perhaps you may re-consider that black rubber hose.

I second not drinking out of the hot water tank, not good. Cold water and wait an extra 20 minutes.

2 parts to why this is, 1st hot water picks up more stuff than cold. 2nd hot water goes though the softer (at least in my neck of the woods) softened water is not good for you, lots of sodium.

Ok a garden hose is made up of plastic and other PV/Rubber products....
where the lead coming from???

Many hoses are made of polyvinl chloride, which uses lead as a stabilizer

Another thing on using water from the hot water tap - I read somewhere that the hot water tank is a good breeding ground for nasties.
