I am new to home brewing and trying to follow a recipe from a book for a Munich Helles Lager. Everything seems pretty straight forward except it calls for flaked barley malt to be steeped with crushed crystal malt at the beginning of the boil. I can't find flaked malted barley anywhere so I am assuming I am missing something. Does this recipe just mean the flaked barley that is available online everywhere that is not malted or do I need to do something to it prior to using it in the recipe? Any help would be appreciated!

I'd assume they mean flaked barley. While flaked barley is cooked barley, and not malted, it doesn't require mashing. It sounds like you're doing an extract recipe w/steeping grains, which regular flaked barley will fit in nicely.

That's exactly what it is...I kind of thought so because it wasn't available anywhere. Thanks for the help!
