Flaked barley?

I've never seen barley flakes sold in grocery stores where I am for making porridge, but if it's anything like flaked oats, then yeah, it's more or less the same thing, especially if the flakes themselves look the same.

The instructions on that site say microwaving for a few minutes is enough for it to make porridge, so I would guess it'll work fine in the mash.
 
It seems they can be used in place of the more expensive brewing ingredient. They are labeled whole grain so they are not made from pearled barley. There are no additives such as salt, sugar, or preservatives.

I think this would be the same as substituting oatmeal for the flaked oats in a recipe.
