Not sure what on earth happened last night, but my projected OG of 1.060 ended up at 1.041

But that will be a different post... Right now, I wanna fix it.

I pitched at midnight last night, and woke up thinking that if I add some LME I can bring up my OG to where it should be. Here's where I need the help:

I have 2 gallons of 1.041, and I want to add .5 gallon of LME wort to make a 2.5 gal batch of 1.060. How much LME should I boil?? Does 1.5 lbs sound right?

Thanks in advance!

Points per gallon for LME is 36, or 1 pound in one gallon water gives you 1.036 gravity. So you will need enough for 2 gallons at 1.019 and an additional 1/2 gallon at 1.060...

PPG's required 2(19) + .5(60) = 68 PPG

Pounds needed 68/36 = 1.9 lbs

Maybe someone can check me on this please?

What you just did up there appears to be some sort of wizardry. Thank you wilserbrewer (wizardbrewer).

A perfect example of how this site is AWESOME! :mug:

Thanks for the link.

The wort was well-mixed and cooled, I'm afraid. I'm really not sure why my efficiency was so bad.

I kept losing a bit of heat during the mash (my lid wasn't fitting on right), down to 148F, but I quickly raised it back up to ~152F.

I dunno, but it's not the first time I've had poor eff. Maybe need new equipment...

Check that your grain was crushed well enough??? Minor temp issues wouldn't likely sap your gravity so severely IMO.
