Tldr kveik is awesome you should try it.

after watching some YouTube videos about the glories of kveik yeast I decided to give it a go. My first recipe I decided to make the snpa listed on their website. I followed it substituting the Chico strain for kveik. This beer turned out awesome! I didn’t have heat control in my fermentation chamber so I chilled to 85 and pitched a heaping teaspoon of the decanted yeast into the fermenter. The temp dropped to around 80 and stayed there for around three days until fermentation completed. I kegged and carbed so it was ready to drink three days later. This needed another week to smooth out but it turned out great. I’d say by week three this beer is in its prime.

beer number two was 9# pale malt from sugar creek in Indiana, 2 oz of Michigan copper hops to create a smash pale lagerish beer. With this I chilled down to ale temps and let it ferment at room temp for me which is around 66. This time I pitched two heaping spoonful of the yeast from the rest of the pack. Fermentation started after around 18 hrs and took around 4-5 days to complete. I tried this one today and while it is not quite carbed enough it tastes very clean.

My take aways:

this will be my go to yeast for easy fast beers to fill kegs.

at lower temperature the yeast turned into compact balls. Next time I would probably cold crash both batches as I thought the yeast stayed in suspension after fermentation and transferred to the keg to easily.

I did not detect the orange esters at the higher temp but this is probably due to all the hops for the pale ale.

the yeast strain was omega yeast 061. I used the pack on two batches but the first batch I kind of messed up the pitch. I think I could get 3-4 batches next time out of one pack. I kept it in a jar refrigerated with distilled water
