Heya everyone!

I am a begginer at brewing taking advice from those i work with that have been doing it a while. My first Brew has been bottled about 4 weeks now. Has a pretty good(not great) smell and flavor. When poured, the head just keeps coming like its part of a porno! Is this normal for a wheat ale?

My second batch just started fermenting, a Vanilla Porter. I'm very excited about this one. but after only 3 days i have stopped seeing the wonderful bubbling from the vent on top. small concerns from a Noob.

Thanks!

Your hydrometer tells you when the brew is done, not the airlock. The airlock is just a sanitary vent. Trust your hydrometer. As far as your wheat, it might be pouring technique. Welcome by the way, and your font/color bothers me.(going blind slowly):D

you will hear it time and time again on these forums, don't gauge fermentation by the airlock.

Tell us more about your first brew was it a extract brew and All grain brew??

You also have to keep in mind that these are 2 totally different beers.

As far as the head of the wheat is concerned, I've poured beers that gave little Head there again I have poured beers that was nothing but head. (of course you cant ask how many homebrews I had between the 2 pours)

SO RDWHAHB!!!

well, they are both extracts. I don't think i am ready for all grain yet. I had one of my co-workers who brews try it out. he said it was really good tasting and had nice head (no pun intended). I racked the porter to secondary on wed this week. specific gravity was aprox 1.02 down from 1.14 (i think i forgot to write this one down). The smell almost made me drink it right then! it was phenominal.

when i did the wheat beer, i didn't relize i had to put water in the airlock... not sure if that affects things, though im sure it does.

i do have another question though, When i did the Vanilla porter, the directions weren't specific on how to handle the vanilla bean... so i just threw it in whole. was i supposed to split it? leave it? chew it up and make a mush? (just kidding on the last one)

Thanks guys for the help!
