Hello everyone.. New to this cider brewing and I have a quick question.

I have a batch of cider going and IM at the end of my 5 week cycle. Last week I took a reading and I was at .998 so I figured I'd give it another week. Well I noticed this week that on the top of the batch I have these white bits floating and IM not sure this normal. IM leaning towards it might be mold is that Possible? normal

Pictures would help. How much head space is in the carboy? And does it smell bad?

I have about 5 to 6 inches of space to the neck.. Smells great.. Tasted it last week and it was really coming along great.. Here's a pic..

Is it in the primary or did you rack it to a secondary fermentor? If it is in the primary I would say you are probably ok as long as it smells good. If you moved it to a secondary you definitely have too much head space and are at risk for oxidation.

It's been in the secondary for 4 weeks... So you think I should toss it?

if it smells and tastes good I would bottle or keg it right away, if you have the ability. just make sure you leave the white stuff behind when racking it. chances are everything will be fine.

Thanks for the help.. I was planning to bottle this weekend.. Just wanted to make sure I and others wouldn't get sick from it.. Learned a lot this time around.. N
