I have followed the wiki instructions for making a starter. After boiling the wort(10 min), I was left with either some undissolved DME or maybe its hot break material that settled out. do I pitch on top of this sediment, or should I remove it before pitching?

Ya you can pitch on it, Its just DME chunks that didn't get stirred well enough, Just cool and pitch it will be fine.
