I brewed my first lager, American Light Lager from Brewing Classic Styles, on May 30 and today I took a sample and I’ve hit my FG of 1.006. Tastes good. No diacetyl that I can detect. Normally I let my ales go 3 weeks before I bottle. Should I go ahead and rack this to a secondary and start to lager? And fir how long? My plan was for about a month due to a trip I have coming up.

My other question is should I cold crash it before transferring in order to try and compact some of the trub? I don’t think I’ve ever had this much. That’s more than 2 qts but it seems like it might compact.

If it’s done it’s done. You can age packaged just the same as bulk aging.

I like to cold crash, just cause it makes for such a cleaner beer. With a lager I would definitely crash it for as long as you can stand to wait.

Yes, cold crash before transferring and you might even consider a little gelatin. Crash to just above freezing, maintain a couple of days then transfer and continue lager'ing near freezing.
