Total newbie. Woke up to some nasties this morning. Think I have my first infection.

Oatmeal stout. Been sitting in the secondary for 11 days. Should i just dump this one down the drain and call it a loss?

I wouldn't give up on it just yet. I would rack from underneath the bubbles and bottle/keg. If it's an aerobic infection, bottling will keep it from going further. It doesn't look like it's that bad, so you'll probably be able to save it if you bottle.

Thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought of that as an option. Know of any trick to getting the auto syphon thought the tip layer of film without infecting the beer below?

Shouldn't be too big an issue to just stick it in. The fact that it's sanitized should keep it clean enough until it pokes through the top layer.

If you're bottling it, you might want to be extra cautious about bottle bombs. Just it case, ya know?

Thanks to you both. Took about 4 gallons off the bottom and bottled tonight. Tasted fine. Guess I'll know for sure in a couple weeks.
