I've been brewing for just about a year now, and have about 8 batches under my belt. Some have been ok, some have been eh, and a couple have been real stickers. It's always been one reason or another for why they didn't turn out good. I don't have the capability or desire to invest a ton of money and time into brewing, but I do want to get the best result with what I can manage.

Last month I made an IPA and really tried to watch every step of the process, and chose a recipe that had a high chance of success. I just kegged it and force carbed yesterday after cold crashing it in my garage, and took a pint. I think I have my first beer that from day one tastes great!

I've loved the whole process of brewing, but haven't had that experience of the end result being really good. Today is a good day!

Good sanitizing and temp control goes a long way. I do my own recipes but what has really helped me to be successful is doing the research right here on what works and what does not. I have had one brew that I am right on the edge of pouring out, a chocolate milk stout, it just does not taste right, I think the coco nibs added too much bitter. I may bottle it from the keg and see how it ages out.

The better they start coming out the more you will want to brew more frequently and purchase all of the "shiny" stuff. Trust me...

Congratulations! I started pre WWW days and made a lot of kind of drinkable (but great because damn it they were mine) beers. The web has really opened up the doors to great homebrew for all with availability of fresh ingredients and help from other Brewers who frequent forums like this. Glad you had you aha! experience so early on. Here's to many more successful brews!
