Hey, I'm new here. Just got my kit and I'm brewing tonight. I thought I'd introduce myself and I hope to be an active member of this community!

Welcome to the shrinking wallet and expanding waistline club.

BTW, read How to Brew when you get a chance. The directions in most kits are lacking.

Congrats! Looking forward to your "Oh CRAP NEED HELP" and "Did I Screw Up?" posts. We've all got a few of those.

And thanks to all, and I'm sure I'll be no exception to the rules you guys have laid out!

I have some caramelized malt on the bottom of my brew pot. Will that hurt future brews? I've been soaking it periodically in hot water and dish soap, and it is coming off slowly. Also, how can I avoid that in the future?

turn the heat off or remove the pot from heat and stir well when adding extract to avoid burning it on the bottom of your pot

Remove your pot entirely from the heat when adding your extraxt, dont just turn the heat down. Stirring it in is also very important, because the lme is so heavy, that it will drop right to the bottom of the pot, carmelize, and affect the taste and color of your beer. Good luck.
