I used the Brooklyn Brew Shop 1-gal beer kit (everyday ipa) and for one the instructions weren't very clear. I've been reading a lot, watching you tube videos and just started John Palmers "How to Brew". Any from what I've seen my brew does not look right. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What doesn't look right? What process did you do? Have photos?

Does it look like this? This is the same kit that I helped a friend with. Nice and bubbly with a krausen.

This was the instructional video for brewing the beer: [ame]http://youtu.be/CH5eN6pVK1A[/ame]

Added dry yeast in last and shook.

Ah that might be the problem. Shaking should take place before adding the yeast. Once the wort is aerated, you should sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit.

Should I terminate it?

You should let it go and hope it settles out. Let it sit an extra week before bottling. Always try before you dump, you never know how it will turn out!

Yep, I ignored the instructions to add the yeast and shake the wort. We did it the usual way, shake and then sprinkle.

One other comment: I think the so - called sanitizer that came with the kit is really powdered brewery wash used for cleaning. You might want to get proper sanitizer for bottling.

Yeah I've been reading that the sanitizer provided might not be very effective. I'll stop by my local home brew store and get better sanitizer for bottling. Again thanks for the advice.

While andou27 is technically correct that you should just sprinkle the yeast on, there is no reason this would effect your beer even .00001%. There is no difference between aerating and pitching, and pitching and aerating assuming your doing them at the same approximate time(not pitching, walking away for a day then shaking).

Your beer looks fine, you just have a ton of trub and yeast sediment. It will settle out over the next few days and that layer will compact down into a small 1" or so layer on the bottom. When you transfer to bottling bucket or whatever to bottle just leave that behind as best you can.

+1 on letting it go and giving it time to work. Yeast are not as delicate as we sometimes seem to think. You should have shaken or aerated the wort before adding yeast. Although not preferable, shaking it after adding yeast is not going to ruin the yeast. Just keep it at the right temp and give it time to do it's thing. If nothing is happening after 72 hours, then add a little yeast nutrient and swirl it all around a few times.
