I normally 3 vessel 10 gallon batches but wanted to try biab 3 gallon batches for some midweek time saving brews and extra variety on tap. best i can tell using biabacus I got 90% efficiency to boil 95% to ambient wort and 90% to fermenter. Much like most of the calculator I have no clue what that means lol, but it seems to good!

What I do know is i made 3.5 gallons of a vienna lager in 3.5 hours including ckean up which means I now love biab for small batches!

Running it through some other online calculators I get similar numbers.

There you go! I love BIAB although I never did 3 vessel...just extract before. It's about the same amount of time and the brew is all grain and tastes better.

Lots of 3 vesselers that may get upset if you tell them your efficiency :)

Heh yeah! I don't get those numbers on my 3v system. Biab for 1.050 beer at 3 gallons or 5g for that matter seems great. Keeping the pot in the oven I didn't lose any temp over the mash. And the 3 minutes it takes to rinse and hang your "mash tun" simply can't be beat.

I got a wilserbag and pulley and they worked great. I'm not certain I would be keen on hoisting and handling a 10g batch solo, without some logistical planning and placement of a pulley system.

I routinely get 70-80% and do mostly just 5 gallon batches and a few 3 gallon.

Also I just use a ladder above my pot and hoist up. It works perfect.

No mash out, no sparge, just simplicity and great beer.

Pretty much what I did except I did do a mash out for a few minutes and I squeezed the bag a bit. I picked up a blichmann floor burner off craigslist and it only took a couple minutes to get from 153 to 170 so my mashout wasn't long.

Went from using a 3 vessel to doing BIAB. My initial reason for changing was to be able to brew inside during the winter and while the wife isn't home and I have the kids. Works great. I would still use my 3 vessel at times but I just got some Wilser bags which I love. One is for my keg so now I can do 10 gallon batches. Personally it will be tuff for me to go back to using my 3 vessel system.

I made the same switch several months ago. After several batches in my eBIAB System, I started selling 3-Vessel equipment. I'm sold and absolutely love it. I'm running a 15.5G kettle with a 240V 4750W BoilCoil and using a single pump to continuously recirculate over the mash. Controller keeps it with a degree. Cut my brew session time in half. Beers have been outstanding. No problems with efficiency.

It may take a little longer with a larger batch.
