I boiled 2 1/2 litres of water, added my beer kit with five cups of corn sugar and poured it into the carboy. I then added 20 litres of cold water to the carboy. I stirred it very well and am satisfied that it is mixed good. I then added the yeast and gave it a final stir.

Do I stir this or just let it sit for the ten day period as suggested on the beer kit? When will the bubbling effect start or is there not any bubbles?

I plan on adding 2 TBSP of regular sugar to each 2 litre bottle. Is that sufficient?

Thanks for your advice.

Don't stir it anymore. You may see bubbles coming out of the airlock in several hours, but often it will take longer (and bubbles aren't a great gauge anyway). It's a clear carboy? If so, then you can see whether it's fermenting.

Most people here add sugar to the whole batch rather than to each bottle.

5 cups of corn sugar?

Is this a Mr. Beer kit?

22.5L = just shy of 6G, way more than MrBeer.

What "kit" did you use?

After you pitch your yeast, nothing more than a slight swirl i needed. Do not stir it again.

Rather than adding sugar to each glass, rack the beer into a boteling bucket where you have 2/3 cup of corn sugar (which was boiled in 1cup water) and then fill the botles. that way you know they all have the same amout of sugar for carbonating.

The method you are using sounds like one of the kits that simply add 1 can of extract and a ton of sugar. (Similar to this process)

While those DO make beer, you may want to concider going with an all extract beer, you will bet much beter results, with little more effort. If you have alot of questions, watch some videos...

Thanks for the links/videos.

It is a Canadian Lager.

Bads197 is scaring me now with his comment about the sugar. Another recipe called for 7 cups of sugar whereas I put in five only. If I understand it right, the more sugar you add, the stronger the beer. I'm hoping for a beer around the 4.5% mark.
