Well,

I am going to make a go at it this weekend! Very excited :ban: Think i have a relatively good idea on process.

My only concern is once things are sanitized how do i keep them sanitized? Can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Thanks
John

Welcome to HBT! What type of beer will you be brewing for you maiden batch?

As far as sanitizing goes... I always sanitize what I will need closer to the time I will need it. After sanitizing a lay the items on a sanitized cookie sheet with a little bit of sanitizer in it, or I may even use a bowl/bucket depoending on what items I will be needing. As I use the stuff I regularly re-sanitize it by dunking them in the sanitizer solution.

Hope that helps, but whatever method you decide on, just make sure it works for you!

Cheers!

Yeah you'll be fine and it'll be a great time.
Your brew area will look like a bomb went of the first few times you brew. Once you get your process down it gets much easier and not as much a mess.
If you haven't already, look into starsan. It's great and can be used in a bucket several times.

I picked up a kit from a local supplier it is American Amber Ale....So we shall see.

When sanitizing is it merely just a a soak/rinse or does some scrubbing need to occur as that has been done prior with cleaning with soap/water?

thanks again
johny

I use bleach for my sani, but only because I'm cheap and am able to rinse with 170F water. I'm betting that nothing grows in those pipes.

Well it's official!

I have stunk up the house like i was cooking sam adams! Going to get a propane burner and do it outside.

First go round i have learned what it takes to get the job done. And learned a lot.

-adding the first round off hops before the boil started, is it possible to burn the wort?

But none the less wasn't as intimidating as i thought. Round two soon!

Cool.
You will find it much easier next time and you'll get better quickly. Make sure to take the pot off the burner when you add the malt extract. Stir it in good and then put it back on the heat.

Stirred extract in off the boiler. when i was doing that realized i was on the smaller heating element for the stove...being a cooktop the heat wasn't consistant and harder to control.

Be better once i'm using a propane burner and outside.

Checked the temp in the closet this morning, and it it 65 F where it is fermenting, right in the middle of the range.

ALSO seeing some action on the airlock! :rockin:

ready to do another BATCH!
