So my roomate and I bottled our first batch last night. It yielded 44 bottles. We filled a shot glass with one, and it tasted like flat beer, so we're guessing we did something right!

Sounds about right. Just make sure to be patient. I know how impossible that is, but really, the beer needs about 3 weeks in the bottle to begin reaching its potential. It'll probably be carbed after about a week, so you can get sort of a feel for it, but do yourself a favor...set aside a 6-pack and let it go for 3, 4, 5 months. After about 6 or 7 it's not gonna really do all that much but the first few months will see vast improvement.
