I'm on my first batch (APA) - seven days in the fermenter - and I'm still getting quite a bit of activity in the airlock. I'd say a bubble every five or ten seconds. I've read that most of the activity occurs within the first few days, so over a week seems a little long to me. Is this normal or did I possibly screw up somewhere?

Should be fine, sometimes it takes longer depending on temperature and gravity. Dont worry too much about it let it go for another couple weeks and see what happens.

Airlock activity is not an indication of anything. Active fermentation happens within the first week or so and not just during the first few days. After that, there's still some activity. Most of us here will leave the brew in the fermenter for 3-4 weeks. No secondary necessary.

The "Activity" in the airlock means nothing except gas escaping. Like posted above, let it go for another 2 weeks, and then use your Hydrometer to take a reading a couple days in a row. If they are the same, then it's time to bottle.

Cheers :mug:

I don't know why I was under the impression that activity in the airlock would practically stop after a few days. Thanks for the responses. Great site that has occupied most of my free time this past week!

Ime,when the airlock slows down or stops, initial, most agressive fermentation is done. But it will still slowly ferment down to a stable FG over the next couple weeks. When you get to FG,give it another 3-7 days to clean up by products & settle out more.
