About to bottle my very first batch of home brew! Woo hoo! It's an Amber Ale. OG 1.053, put in primary for one week, secondary for 10 days, just took gravity reading and it is 1.011, this gives me 5 1/2% ABV correct? I have bottles sanitizing in dishwasher right now. Gonna transfer from carboy to bottling bucket and add priming sugar. gonna fill sanitized bottles using bottling wand and topping with sanitized crown caps. Is it necessary to have a lid on bottling bucket while bottling? Any advice and/or constructive criticism welcome.

I wouldn't think it would matter about the lid. Either way its going to be exposed to air, unless your worried about trash getting in it for the short time it takes.

I just put some sanitized aluminum foil over the top just to protect from potential particles falling in.
