On February 5th I brewed my first batch of beer (NB Caribou Slobber). I looked at several threads on this app, basically I used this app to hold my hand all the way through my first experience. I just want to say thanks! I tried my beer and it taste great. It’s a little lacking in the head area but that’s all I can complain about it. To me it’s a great beer and a great experience. I’m trading beer with a friend who home brews as well today. I’m hoping he agrees that it’s a great first beer but if not who cares because I like it ( insert evil laugh). Now I’m off to smoke meat and enjoy some home brew. Thanks again!

Grats on a successful first brew, that's what will keep you doing this.

As far as head formation and retention goes the good old John palmer how to brew site will help you out.

Caribou Slobber is one of my favorites. A glass that has been run through a dish washer may have soap residue or the residue from a rinse aid which will kill the head on a beer.

That’s funny you mention that because I intentionally hand washed my glass and my wife said I was goofy.

Nice job! Oh and welcome to the forum! Now that you are hooked your in the club. It's a wild ride and can get expensive when you later decide to upgrade your brewing system. You will have a blast though!

Yeah I have noticed that it’s not a cheap hobby, but luckily my wife likes beer as much as I do.

Congratulations, and welcome to this hobby some of us call an obsession. I've got an iteration of Caribou Slobber in the fermenter right now, with different hops because that's what I had.

Thanks! I really enjoy it. My next batch will be Peace Coffee 2nd Crack Stout.

Congrats on the first brew! I am patiently waiting to bottle my first batch, Chinook IPA. It's currently in week 1 in the secondary fermenter, so it won't be long until bottling day!

Thanks! Post back when yours is finished and let me know how it turns out

Congrats on the brew. I just bottled my 3rd batch (1 and 2 gallon batches from starter kits) and started my first 5 gallon batch (dead ringer IPA) this past weekend. This is turning out to be one of my better hobbies/obsessions :)

This is the reason that some of us are still brewing 20 years later. It's a great hobby, and for me, stress reliever. When I'm brewing, I'm not thinking of anything else. Oh and on the head retention, I second the call to read John Palmer's book. It's great, I've read it several times over the years. There are several different ingredients and techniques that can help with larger and longer lasting head retention. /cheers
