Hello,

I am preparing to make my first all grain so I made this recipe:

Single hop amarillo

9lbs pale ale malt
2lbs munich malt

3.5 ounces of amarillo (I won't use it all)

1 pack of SAFEALE 05 - 11.5g

Do you have any suggestions? Should I modify something in the recipe?

Well, it's a little vague, so it's hard to suggest much. What are you aiming for?

If it were my recipe, and depending on the AA% of the hops, I'd probably use a half ounce at 60 minutes, a half ounce at 45 (or 30, depending), an ounce at five minutes and an ounce at flameout. But that's just me, I like late hops. What do you like?

My main recommendation is, first of all, make friends with one of the many online recipe calculators out there. Plug in numbers and play. Second, get that brew going! You'll never know until you try.

Cheers!

3.5 oz of hops is next to nothing! I would definitely use all of them if not more! A half ounce to an ounce at 60 and the rest from 15 down

When I was first starting out I'd get a clone recipie of a beer I really liked and tried to duplicate it. It provided me with a goal against which to measure my progress. Many commercial craft brews actually will tell you their grain and hops bill ( although not the proportions) so you have something to start with. In *general* most recipies contain *about* 2 lbs base malt per gallon of finished product. That means your recipie is about right of a 5 gallon batch. Is that what you were aiming for?

Your first all grain is going to put you on the learning curve regardless ... just enjoy the process, keep track of the details of your procedures and look forward to your results (mmmm beeeerrr). Good luck !
