Since I lack the equipment to go full all-grain with 5 gallon batches, I decided to whip up a 5-gallon batch using a partial mash yesterday. This was my first stab at doing a recipe that wasn't full extract, and so far it has been a success! I used the Bee Cave APA as a guideline and made some modifications myself, upping a bit of the hop content and changing out the 10L and adding in some darker Crystal.
I actually built myself a MLT using one of the cooler conversion guides I saw on this site (using a SS braid for drainage) and it performed heroically for the mash and sparge. Major props to BrewPal for the iPhone for giving me spot on temperature targets for the mash and sparge.
Very successful brew day. Hit my 1.053 OG spot on and it's now in my fermentation chamber (read: closet). Thanks to anyone who had a post that somehow influenced this step (which is many of you). Pics when it's finished!
