I forgot to take the FG reading before transferring to the bottling bucket. So I took one with the added priming sugar and it was a higher reading than expected. Is there any way to compensate for the added sugar or take a reading again after it has carbonated? What other info would you need to determine this.

Thanks,
Steve

How much higher than expected? You can compensate for the priming sugar, but even 5oz (in 5 gallons) won't change the reading that much, maybe .002.

Priming sugar will not change the gravity reading all that much as originally stated. However, checking after bottle conditioning will let you know the percentage of alcohol, but nothing else.

Checking OG and FG is important to see the progress of the beer. There could be an underlying problem in your beer, like stuck fermentation, or an infection that consumed all the fermentables and now you have a high alcohol nasty beer. IMHO
