Been collecting parts to start kegging my beer for a while now. Just ordered the remaining pieces and a filtering kit a few days ago. The filter is one that filters from one keg into another. How much beer/wine can I expect to lose from this setup?

I have a batch of reisling ice wine I'd like to bottle soon. It's only a 3 gallon batch so I'm just wondering how much I'd lose filtering. May also try out my blichmann beer gun...

If you push it...I lost only about 6 ounces once, but usually lose about 12-16 ounces, to the filter and the dead space.

I don't think I'll filter it in that case. It's a 3 gallon batch of wine, so 12-16oz would be a pretty good loss

I figure that I end up siphoning more than I normally would since I'll be filtering it, so I justify the loss.

I never filter anything. With enough patience and using the proper techniques (don't do anything to stir up the cake on the bottom), I end up with very clear wine & beer with little or no sediment fallout in the bottle. Only volume I lose is what gets left over from my auto siphon. No cleared out yet? Transfer and age some more...
