Hello

Im new to brewing and this is my second batch to make and my first came out perfect. So i dont no if my second batch is any good so i need some help please.
I have been brewing coopers canadian blonde lager kit at between 21 and 24celsius with the coopers brewing enhanced sugar 1 for the last 8 days now and the bubbles had stopped in the air lock so without thinking i syphon it into my second vessel for bottling AND THEN took a hydro reading and it only reads 1020.
If i leave it in the Second vessel for a few days will the fermention complete or is my batch of beer fecked up??
Also i have no airlock on the lid of the second vessel will i need 1 on it for the fermention to complete.
And thanks in advanced for any help.

8 days is not enough time to bottle. Many people use the 1-2-3 method. 1 week in primary, 2 weeks in secondary, and 3 weeks in bottles. But time is NOT an indicator of when fermentation has stopped, A constant hydrometer reading over 2+ days is.

So in line with the 1-2-3 way you have moved the beer into secondary, which should respark up the fermentation. I would cover it w/ an airlock and let it sit for 10-14 days then start taking hydrometer readings until it was all done!

Thanks Zamial for your help.
I had my first batch brewing for a week and i got a hydro reading of 1006 after a week so i was able to bottle and leave for 3 weeks then drink it and i taught this batch would have been the same but apartintely not.
I have modified the lid on the second vessel for a and airlock so thats working away now in the secondary vessel.
I willl keep you posted on how i get on, im learning as i go and thanks again.

Sounds like you have it under control.

The manufacturers mention a given timeline for marketing reasons... that's not how you (generally) make the best beer. If fermentation is done after a week, well, that's possible... but leaving the yeast there longer to clean up their products will make a tastier beer.

The warmer you ferment it, the faster it will go, but it will also make "bad" alcohols and esters, which can cause hangovers and off-flavors. You're free to make the beer as fast as you want, but remember the taste may not be what you're looking for.

You need to be careful of the sugar content when bottling, though, because that's when there is a real potential for hurting yourself or others via bottle bombs. Hydrometers are your friend. :)

Hi justibone

Yes my first brew (mexcian creaves) was brewing at a temp. of 24 to 26 degree celcious and i think the alco vol might not have been as strong as i taught it would be, but it was nice and easy drank 2 easy :).
when im bottling i use carbanation drops 2 to a pint bottle and it carbanates good.
Im looking to make a lager that has a taste like heinkien or carlsberg do you or anyone know of any lager kit that has some simlar taste??

Lagers are difficult, requiring extra time and more care with temperatures. Your best shot at a lager (as a new brewer) is to find an ale that emulates lager flavor without all the extra steps. You can easily search the forum for that.

As for sugar, yes, the carb drops do make things easier, but that's not all there is to it. If your beer was not done fermenting, and if it had too much sugar in it -- then you add your carb drops -- you will have way too much sugar and the yeast can actually create enough CO2 to blow the bottle up.

So, that's another good reason to know the final gravity when you're brewing... that's what I was getting at. :)

Yes i read something about the bottles exploding when doing my reserch on homebrewing.
would you have any sugguestions on an ale that would suit me.
Now im also open for new tastes thats why i started making my own beer.

I might as well suggest a dog breed to you, as recommend a beer type. Find a kit you think might be interesting, and that is suitable to the challenge level you think is best (beginner, intermediate, etc.), then hop to it! ;)

If you like lagers but don't have a lager set-up, you could look into "steam beer". Research it and see.

Hi lads

Just a quick post to let you how my beer is getting on its been 14 days since i put my beer into the secondary fermentor vessel and i have took a reading for the last 3 days and its staying at 1016 and suggestions on wat i should do.
Should i bottled it??
Should i leave it for longer in the fermontor??
Could i put something in it to get my hydro reading down more??

If you think the gravity is supposed to go down further, sometimes swirling it will get it to go a few more points. You should be absolutely certain there are not more sugars in there than you planned on before bottling. It will not hurt the beer to let it sit for another week at least, and it will probably help it a great deal, so... do what you think is right. :)

We all know how hard it can be to stay patient!

Yea i think i might give it a whirl around without taking off the lid and leave it for another week or more and see how she goes.
Thanks justibone for all the help and advice :rockin:

Ill keep ya posted on how she goes :)
