Does anyone see any drawbacks to fermenting in a plastic carboy? I am talking about the Sparklett's type 5 gallon water jug similar to the typical glass carboy that comes with most beginner sets. I bought one at the store for about $6. Used the water for brewing and then kept it around for fermenting in. My concern is that there may be the potential for small scratches on the interior of the plastic bottle that could collect beer diseases. Just wondering if anyone had gone this route before.
