I just got my first brewing kit yesterday. The lid for my plastic fermenting bucket seems to just lay on top, is it supposed to screw on or "latch" onto the bucket in any way? I figured it needed to be somewhat air tight for the fermentation lock/stopper to work properly. Just thought that was a bit odd.

Could someone clear up my confusion? Thanks!

They are super hard to get on the first few times. Peck it on w/ a rubber mallet if you have one while holding it down. Once you have it on, leave it on for awhile. It'll loosen up after being on for a bit.

Did you pull off the extra plastic on the lid? There should be a little tab on the rim -- pull it and it will take about 1/2 inch of the rim with it and the lid will fit perfectly. i had this problem as well.

1st Let's get it on. I suggest taking a hair dryer on high heat and gently warming the lids edges to get it down on the bucket. It will "snap" into place with a lot of force.

Now let's get it off. I use a bucket opener like the one pictured here: http://www.castlewholesalers.com/THRIFTY-TROWEL-BT-1-Heavy-DutyPlastic-Bucket-Opener.html DISCLAIMER: I have never done business with these people I am simply providing a link!!!! Or google bucket opener.

Ahh, I got it on guys. Just needed to put a little muscle into it. Eventually popped right on.

Thanks everyone for the help!
