I just brewed my first batch (a red ale) from an extract kit and i pitched the rehydrated and primed yeast (nottingham dry) into my carboy fermentor at about 70 degrees. After 24 hours, it was bubbling like crazy (couple times a second), with the wort temp around 72-74. I have been reading that it is not good to let fementation temp get too high, especially during the early hours, so i put the carboy in a bucket of water with some ice to cool it. That was at about 24 hours, now it is at 48 hours and the temp is 66-68. It is bubbling less frequently now, about once every 5 seconds. Was it ok to lower the temp or should i have left it alone at about 72-74 degrees? My air temp is a constant 68 degrees.
