I just brewed a extract apa that used 6# dme and about 3 # pf grain. With the sugars in this, my abv should be in the mid 6's, instead its in the low 5's. My fg has been sitting at 1.012. My only thought as to why this stopped so fast and came out so low was that my grain did not get fully saturated? Any thoughts or opinions on this would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like it stopped too soon. An FG of 1.012 sounds about right for most brews. Did you take a hydrometer reading before you pitched the yeast? That number will tell if you got poor efficiency from the grains. But hey, you still made beer! :mug:

Yes, I did take an sg before I pitched and this brew is in at 5.3abv.
I have never had a batch stop so fast and clear so quick- like in the matter of one weeks time, that's what was so curious to me. I put this in the secondary yesterday to clear and this thing is ready to go. Maybe I shouldn't question it and enjoy the fact that I will be sipping sooner than later.

Thank you for the replies.

Hammy,
I bottled and am enjoying this apa. My farmhouse ale is just about done too( a month and a half in the secondary ) that'll teach me to use honey :)
This brew has an fg of 1.010 which rocks and is giving me an abv of 9.3%
