Last weekend I made a porter (OG 1.062). I pitched the yeast (Wyeast 1056) and got great activity up front then it subsided after 2 days like normal so I put a ferm lock on. this morning (4 days after pitch) there was high yeast activity again and foam came up through the lock. Fermentation temp has been steady at 74-76F. Never had that happen before and I was curious why.

yeast are living creatures, and like all living creatures can be unpredictable. count yourself lucky that they got back on the job instead of quitting on you!

74-76 is pretty warm for 1056. Wyeast recommends keeping it under 72.
