I'm trying to make the smallest possible fermentation fridge for use in my apartment. I've found one of those round starbucks promotional fridges shaped like a can. I'm going to build a temp controller with those ebay aquarium temp controllers. Its perfect diameter for a carboy and height I can make work. Anyone used anything like this for fermenting before?

If it is the right size, then I'd imagine as long as you temp control it, it should be fine.

Are you thinking of providing heat as well as cold to control the fermentation temperatures? If so, you might want to consider your heating source and whether or not it will fit in that fridge.

+1 to the ebay aquarium controller, I built one for my kegerator and it works great

Whats up with the ebay aquarium controller? I was gonna order a johnson controller. Would the aquarium controller do the same thing?

It's a matter of cost. The EBay type controller is typically less expensive and can do a good job. Also, it depends on what you are planning to control. By this, I mean in terms of heating and/or cooling, and the amount of power required to run said elements.

I think my fermentation chamber is getting one of these. All i need now is a used mini fridge.

Hey brooklyn,im in staten island. Where do you get your ingredients?

I ordered my controller about 9 days ago. Just arrived yesterday. Hopefully it'll be up and running by this weekend.

Brooklyn Homebrew is my LHBS. Great little shop. Has everything.

What about yourself?

I order everything online. Easier for me. I wentto the beer room at whol foods one time before they upgraded and they were pretty decently priced for barley. I the proceeded to get so drunk at the White Horse that i left 30pounds of grain on the bus.

Yeah, I shamefully admit to buying there a couple of times as its right on my way home from work and I'm lazy but I try and shop at Brooklyn Homebrew to support the small local biz you know. That and I end up walking out with a lot of expensive beers I didn't intend to buy.
