Hey guys,
Have you seen stuff like this suspended in your fermentor?

This is around my 20th 1 gallon batch and I've never seen this before.

This happened in less than 12 hours after pitching the Ale yeast. (Safale US-05).

Typically I just sprinkle the yeast on top and leave it alone. This time after putting the yeast in I shook the carboy rapidly. Hoping that fermentation would start and finish quicker.

The stuff looks like algea blooms, gross.

After 24 hours @ 19-20 deg C the airlock is bubbling slowly but the clumps of stuff haven't sunk to the bottom.

What's going on with my brew?

Thanks

I concur, looks like break material that was likely laying rather innocently at the bottom before the pitching and shaking. The evolving CO2 is keeping it suspended. Time will drop it; cold will drop it faster...

Cheers!
