Fermcap turning black?

I looked at my supplies today and saw my bottle of fern cap looks like this. Is this normal?

Do you keep it refrigerated? I was told to always leave it in the fridge. Also...no that does not look normal. It looks like black mold or mildew or something.

I was told likewise.

I've only had my bottle for a little over a month, but it's pure white. And I can't imagine it turning black could be a good thing.

AHA ... i was NOT told to refrigerate it ... lesson learned. Bottle tossed.
