What do you guys do with your left over ingredients after brew day? Every time I brew I have left over ingredients that I have no use for. Does having left over specialty malts and grains bug anybody else? What do you do about it?

I fold up the bag and stick a cloths pin on it.Doesnt bother me a bit.Somehow they always eventually get used. And if your talking about 1/2 pound of specialty grains its like $1 in grain and wouldn't bother me to toss it...although I never do.:D

I used to keep all the extras when I first started out and they started accumulating over time. Now I keep an inventory of over 20 grains and 10 kinds of hops to use (about 5 base malts and 1-2 lbs of each specialty grains)

You aren't being very creative with your recipes if you have ingredients that you have no use for. Try a pale ale recipe that calls for C20 but substitute C90 since you have that and are out of C20. It won't be to style at all but it sure will be beer. There are lots of ingredients that are closer than that that can be substituted if you aren't going for a competition beer.:ban:

This Is how they usually get burned up.

I'm lucky in that my LHBS is very nearby, I go there and get exactly what I need for the brew day and I never have anything left over, except for the hops I will be adding after fermentation... What kind of stuff are you left with? In my case, I measure out the grains at the store according to the recipe so there are no extras. With hops, I usually plan forwhole oz's in my recipe. If I bought in bulk then they wouldn't be considered extras anyway...

I go to LHBS with grain bill if the recipie calls for 1/2# special B I buy the whole pound they mill what I need and seal the rest, when I need that grain again I bring it back and they mill it with the other grains. Since I've already purchased it, its one less item for me to buy. I have a gamma lid pail to store, and transport them in.

Get creative, make a kitchen sink brew, then make a grandma pizza with everything on it, and enjoy. :D

I keep a couple of plastic bins in my beer fridge for 1# or less of grains. I take a look every month or so to try and incorporate them into upcoming recipes I plan to brew. I hate wasting ingredients.

I usually don't buy recipie specific ingredients unless I am missing something. Base malts and things that I use often (carpils, viena, etc) get bought as whole bags to save money then I store in gamalid buckets. Specialty grains I normally buy 5-10#'s at a time then either store directly in a bucket/storage container or vacuum seal and have multiples share a container. Hops I buy in #s or above to save money. Yeas I overgrow starters and save enough to rebuild.
