So far I have used nothing but ale yeast with ale temperatures. Will I need any extra equipment if I want to do a home brew lager from extract and specialty grains with my current True Brew starter kit? Thanks!

Do you have a way to keep the lager at the correct fermentation temps for a lager yeast?

A temp controller would be a big help if you plan on brewing a lager in the summer. I've had pretty good results doing one in the winter. Our crawl space gets to be about 48F-50F in the winter, so I can start the fermentation down there and then bring it out and into the house to get it up to 60F for a diacetyl rest and then out to the garage where it is about 35F on a cold day to finish it out. In the summer, I'd be screwed.

You don't necessary need extra equipment, but you will need to keep the wort/beer at a specific temperature to ensure that the yeast ferment the sugar correctly. Higher temps can over stress the yeast and result in off flavors; lower than adequate temps can cause stalled fermentation.
Some people buy mini-fridges and make fermentation chambers from them; I think they are called 'son-of-a-fermentor' or something like that. Other people just use an old tub or sink that they aren't using; they fill it up with ice every day to ensure that the temperatures stay within lager temps (usually 50 to 59 F degrees).

So the only equipment I'd need would be temperature control? And of course the yeast would differ. Cheers!
