Going to brew an experimental IPA. I was wondering what a good beer base recipe would be as I do not brew IPA's regularly. I am.... making a garbage DIPA to be straight with you all. I have a bunch of left over hops that I want to mess with and I do not personally like IPA in general (I'm a stout and dark beer man through and through). However, to become a master brewer... in my eyes, one must brew everything!!! So for my first experimental DIPA I made a goal to get my IBUs to 69 (giggedy). I will be using the following hops for no reason whatsoever other then that I can.

Hops and times:

1oz HBC 342 Experimental Pellet Hops (60 min)

0.5oz Belma Hops (60 min)

1.5oz Saaz Hops (30 minutes)

0.5oz German Select, Tettnanger, and Spalt (30 minutes)

I have not decided on the malts yet. But Maris Otter is my go to malt for a base. But if anyone wants to offer up some IPA malt blends I'd be willing to do the math on em. b^^

Maris Otter is a fine base. You don't really need anything else, but you could throw in some crystal 15L or something to give it some color.

I would suggest that you should use the Belma and HBC 342 later in the boil, or for dry hopping, to maximize aroma. The German/Czech hops aren't going to give you as much flavor/aroma-wise, particularly if you want a more traditional IPA flavor.

MO makes a great IPA. Look thru some recipes and get a feel for what to use. Now those hops on the other hand, I'd totally reconsider. Not going to get you an IPA. Save those for your dark brews. General rule of thumb is to use a bittering hop at 60, then late additions.
