Once more it's feedback - this time some tacos and some Q&A feedback. Do you want to help us transcribe some Q&A? - email us! ([email protected]) We stop by the pub to talk the dangers of yeast and clean beer lines and what radical move CAMRA might need to take in the new beer world. In the lab we drop the results of our first Keg Purge experiment - does purging your kegs of homebrew make a detectable difference to our tasters? In the Lounge, Denny sits down with craft maltser (and sponsor of the show), Seth Klann of Mecca Grade Estate Malt. They talk Seth's long family connections, the challenges of growing barley and just why would you decide to add the complication of malting on top of it? Find out about liquid nitrogen, barley varieties and the future of craft malt. Then a few questions from the other side of the world, a quick tip, and Denny gets to Oontz'ing.

Thanks for putting the start times for your different segments. Really nice to see a topic and be able to jump ahead to just the right spot.

Only listen to the keg purge part, but plan to go back and listen to the mecca grade segment.

Great! It's pretty cool to hear what Seth has to say!

@Denny just listened to this episode. I have used malt from Colorado Malting Co in Alamosa, CO almost exclusively when it comes to base malt and wheat malt. As they have experimented and expanded what they're making I've tried several malts-Belgian, Belgian chocolate, crystal, Colo-Pils, Biscuit, white wheat, rye, Pilsner, 2-row pale... The Cody family are awesome. Jason is the CEO and has met me at the brew pub and helped me carry the malt out to my truck. Or I'd leave them an envelope of cash with the bartender and I'd grab my grain out of the brew room like a wonderful and legal drug deal
Just saw this story that they are opening Colorado's first farmhouse brewery at the farm/ malthouse! https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...unches-states-first-farmhouse-brewery.551840/

They do grow barley, wheat, and rye that they malt. BUT they also malt quinoa, spelt, milo and other stuff to make gluten free beer! As far as I know they are the only folks doing this at a craft maltster level in the country. Great folks, great malt, and I'd love to hear an interview with Jason or someone from CMC.

Great info! Thanks so much for letting us know! There's also a CO maltster named Root Shoot, and I'd like to have them both on our next malt show.

Do you know where they operate? It's really hard to get CMC stuff now that I moved. They love supporting homebrewers but they are plenty busy with the breweries they work with and I haven't found a LHBS who carries there stuff because of quantity and shipping cost.

I've clicked on Experimental Brew links many times and typically read a bunch of words that attempt to describe an experiment while concluding nothing. Frankly, I'm not really sure what the site is supposed to be. Where are the results?
