I'm not positive because I've never had it before, but I bought Pyramid's Wheaten IPA today and I think it was either an infected batch or I just can't find a review of the stuff where anyone's palate is picking up on the same things as mine.

The aroma reminds me of a fruity sour ale (not a bad thing, to me, but not what I want in an IPA) and the finish is almost overwhelmingly astringent... not a pleasant hops bitter but like the finish you'd get from beer brewed with over-boiled tea leaves.

Am I nuts? Anyone else ever try this beer and think the same thing?

I have had infected commercial beers.... not from a brewery as big as pyramid though.

Commonly find bad beers on tap at bars that don't clean their lines..... that is more common than getting bad bottles.

I've had infected commercial beers before, but it's pretty rare, especially from larger brewery's. It could be an age issue, does the bottle have a date of any sort on it?

I've not had an infected commercial beer but I've had undrinkable commercial beer. I once had a beer from a major commercial craft brewery that was brewed with wild yeast. Upon opening the beer it immediately erupted out of the bottle in a volcanic explosion of foam leaving less than a few ounces in the bottom of the bomber. I sent the brewery off an email and they apologized and sent me some nice shwag along with a hand written letter of apology.

I've had clearly infected commercial beers - though as said above not from larger widely distributed breweries. I once had a coffee milk stout from a smaller brewery that tasted like spoiled milk...so, yeah, it can happen.

Sigh... enjoy by 1/10/13. Last time I buy anything at that over-priced dump. Interesting the way the age turned the aroma into something so reminiscent of a sour, though.
